Overview
On this page you will find a walkthrough of an artifact submitted for the “Ensuring Professionalism through a Multicultural Lens Micro-credential” micro-credential. This video guides you through the considerations and steps taken when generating a resource packet meant to aid students’ transition into a new school. A team of fourth and fifth grade teachers created the packet in response to their large multilingual and newcomer student population. Spanish was the most common secondary language at this school so the packet featured English and Spanish pages. The welcome packet was created with the understanding that immigrant students are often learning the customs of US public schools, in addition to learning a new language. So, it features student-facing resources that were designed to communicate the expectations and norms of the school site. The packet is comprehensive in nature as it also includes diagnostic pages and communication resources for the school’s multilingual population.
