Advanced Micro-Credential: Identifying the Special Needs of ELs
Betsy Coco - ExcEL MUSE Team, Nashua School District
Overview
On this page you will find a walkthrough of documentation for a set of student interventions created in alignment with the “Identifying the Special Needs of ELs” Advanced Micro-Credential. The authoring teacher identified areas of growth for which the student needed support for and developed activities in the student’s home language. After the student received practice in their home language, all the activities were practiced in English first with the teacher and then with peers. Addressing areas of growth in a systematic way helps identify a student’s need for differentiated academic instruction as opposed to targeted language acquisition instruction.
