Advanced Micro-Credential 3: Identifying and the Addressing Special Needs of English Learners
Jessica M. - ExcEL MUSE Team, High School Teacher Providence Public Schools
Overview
On this page, you will find a walkthrough of an artifact submitted for the “Identifying and the Addressing Special Needs of English Learners” Advanced Micro-credential. The authoring teacher created the graphic organizer to adapt her students’ needs as English-learning students in ways that align with their Individual Education Program (IEP) content area goals. Teachers list observable behaviors that indicate a student’s need for accommodations and create measurable goals that fit a student’s dual-identified learning profile. The accommodations can and should be shared with other educators working with the student to ensure equitable access to the curriculum across settings. The authoring teacher created these materials in a self-contained, special education classroom but non-ML or non-special education students may benefit from these materials as well. You may pause the video or reference the templates under the “Resources” section for a detailed look at the content of the intervention handout.
